My oil and brake lights came on today on my 87 Yugo Gv 1.1 and I open the hood and oil has sprayed everywhere. I check the oil level and it's only 2.5 quarts low. I top it off and at idle it is blowing out of the dipstick and the valve cover gasket. The parts store had a Chevrolet valve cover breather that would release the pressure ( and oil )more easily but on the drive home, the lights came on and I had to add more oil. Time to rebuild the engine? it has 52k on it, but sat from 1991 - 2016. is there a PVC valve clogged or have the rings screwed the pooch?

Does it smoke on the exhaust?

No smoke and isn't down on power, still does 82mph. with excellent acceleration, so I'm thinking the rings are probably o.k. I'm going to take the vent thingamabob off the side of the motor and zap it with the pantherpiss. It must be clogged up and not letting it breath.

Change the seal on the cover of valves and on the rod for oil check. Check the rear brakes, cylinders oxidize and block, rubbers on them can be rotten. Change the oil.

The valve cover gasket is new, the "rod" is still there, the rear brakes will only slow me down, and the oil has changed itself, all over the engine and down the side of the car. I've owned lots of cars, just never had one do this without a large hole in the oil pan or engine block.

Then it's probably the crankshaft seal

There was no blockage in the vent, so I'm thinking the next step is to see if the piston rings are stuck in the lands. I'll check the compression then I'll add some automatic transmission fluid to the cylinders through the sparkplug holes and let them soak. Then start the engine and pour some down the carburetor to clean the carbon out. Then i'll recheck the compression to see if the procedure has worked.

The procedure has worked so far, there must have been some carbon buildup on the ring lands on the pistons and maybe the cylinder walls. After making some massive clouds of white-blue smoke, the compression is up and the oil is staying where it belongs.
